Spotlight20 Years of ABS: Memories from Day One When the American Baccalaureate School first opened its doors in September 2006, the hallways smelled of new paint and promise. Boxes of books were being unpacked, teachers were arranging desks, and students some in uniforms a size too big were taking their first curious steps into what would become their second home. Among those first through the doors were Mrs. Dalia Sakr and Mrs. Azzah Al Jandali, two teachers who have been part of ABS from day one.Walking Into HistoryBoth teachers remember that first morning vividly. Dalia recalls a mixture of nerves and anticipation, describing the building as %u201chuge and modern, with new furniture.%u201d Azzah remembers feeling %u201cexcitement and pride%u201d as she joined a community that already felt %u201cwarm, welcoming, and deeply committed to education.%u201d keep young learners engaged. %u201cNow, after twenty years and teaching Year 5, my focus is on developing critical thinking, independence, and deeper understanding,%u201d she said. For Dalia, the challenge was balancing preparation with communication and time management. %u201cIt took a lot of effort to prepare lessons, choose activities, and build trust with parents,%u201d she explained.Moments That Still Make Them SmileSome memories still bring laughter. One of Dalia%u2019s students loved to imitate her, playing teacher and helping to organize the class. %u201cThey would even fight to sit next to me,%u201d she laughed. %u201cI was very nervous but excited to begin this new experience.%u201dThe First DayThose first classes were full of discovery. Azzah, then teaching Year 1, filled her lessons with songs, routines, and hands-on activities to 18 ABS Times - 2025/2026
