CNCCookbook: Be a Better CNC'er

CNC Lathe Picture Potpourri

Just a few pix along the way of my CNC conversion of a Lathemaster 9x30 lathe. It's still not done as I'm writing this, but there has been a lot of progress lately...

Whoa, bunch O' parts. This is my original scavenging, most wound up not being used...

Driving the leadscrew with a step motor...

Cross slide is gonna work like this...

Got panel? MPG, joystick, E-stop, and lots of buttons. The two holes are for feed and speed override pots...

Built a rack mount PC: Athlon 64, Micro ATX motherboard. Just installing Windows XP here...

Got the DC Stepper Power Supply working...

Gecko Bracket from a heatsink...

Heatsink is pure aluminum: very gummy to mill!

Power supply, GRex, and Geck Drive tray mounted in the second rack mount enclosure. Front panel at bottom with more components...

E-Stop / Main Panel Power in the "On" position, slap it down and it goes "Off"...

Red beastie is a "Delay On Make" relay. It holds back power until the GRex has a chance to boot up...

Step/Dir/DC Power wired to Geckos. Microphone connectors for 2 step motors and limit switches installed on back panel. Parallel breakout card for the control panel installed too.

Home/Limit Switch uses a roller microswitch and will be clamped to the lathe bed for the X-axis...

Swing arm rack is nearly done!

Driver Electronics Enclosure is Finished!

Back Panel Connections are Clearly Labeled...
