SuKasa Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-05-09
SuKasa is an Apple Watch and iPhone app that controls TP-Link Kasa
smart-home devices on your local Wi-Fi network. This page explains what data
the app handles and what it doesn't.
In one sentence
SuKasa stores a small list of devices you add (label, IP, type) on your
own device, sends commands directly to those devices over your home Wi-Fi,
and shares nothing with anyone — not us, not third parties, not analytics
services.
What SuKasa stores
The app keeps a small amount of data locally on your iPhone and
Apple Watch only:
- Devices you add: a label you type (or one supplied by
the device), the device's local IP address, the device kind (plug,
dimmer, bulb, etc.), and, for power strips, each outlet's identifier and
label as reported by the hardware.
- A scan-prefix preference: the last subnet prefix used
by the network scan feature, if you used it.
This data is stored in standard iOS / watchOS preferences storage. It is
not uploaded anywhere.
What SuKasa does over the network
- Sends control commands and queries (turn on/off, set brightness, read
state) directly to your Kasa devices using their published local
protocol on TCP port 9999. These messages stay on your home Wi-Fi.
- Forwards Watch app commands to the iPhone companion via Apple's
WatchConnectivity framework. The iPhone then makes the local-network
request on the Watch's behalf. WatchConnectivity is provided by Apple
and routes traffic only between your paired devices.
The app does not contact any server we operate. There are no accounts,
no sign-in, no telemetry, no analytics, and no third-party SDKs.
Permissions we ask for
- Local Network access (iOS and watchOS). Required to
send commands to your Kasa devices. Used only for that purpose. The
system will prompt you the first time the iPhone app makes a
local-network request; you can revoke the permission at any time in
Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network.
What we don't do
- We don't collect, transmit, or sell your data.
- We don't track you across apps or websites.
- We don't use cookies, identifiers for advertising, or third-party
analytics.
- We don't send your device list, IP addresses, or any usage information
off your devices.
Children
SuKasa is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly
collect information from anyone.
