# AGENTS.md - Danger zones and restricted areas (USACE)

Guidance for AI agents and LLMs working with this collection.

## Overview

Danger zones, restricted areas and similar regulated water areas in coastal and marine waters (422 polygons) from 33 CFR part 334 and the raster navigational charts; `agencyofuse` is the using agency (mostly U.S. Navy and Army). A regulation may have several polygons: the id is state + CFR section, and repeats get ':part' suffixes in OBJECTID order.

## Find a place

```sql
SELECT * FROM read_parquet('https://storage.oceanmetrics.io/gazetteer/usace_danger_zones/places.parquet')
WHERE name ILIKE '%california%';
```

`place_id` is unique and prefixed; `status` / `status_source` / `status_date` say whether the place is current and
where that is documented. Check `status` before treating a lease or area as live.

## Render on a map

Load `places.pmtiles` (layer `usace_danger_zones`) into MapLibre GL via the PMTiles protocol; `styles/default.json` is a starting style.
