# AGENTS.md - Offshore state lateral boundaries (lines)

Guidance for AI agents and LLMs working with this collection.

## Overview

The 19 lines that divide the offshore waters of adjacent coastal states (`statenames`, `statefips` as 'FIPS - FIPS'), with the legal source of each (`boundarysource`: Supreme Court opinion, BOEM unofficial boundary, ...). Lines, not polygons: the federal / state split is noaa_state_submerged_lands.

## Find a place

`place_id` is unique and prefixed; `status` / `status_source` / `status_date` say whether the place is current and
where that is documented. Check `status` before treating a lease or area as live.

## Render on a map

Load `places.pmtiles` (layer `noaa_state_lateral_boundaries`) into MapLibre GL via the PMTiles protocol; `styles/default.json` is a starting style.
