## Overview

The 18 national marine sanctuaries and marine national monument sanctuary units of the National Marine Sanctuary System (47 polygons: multi-part sites such as Channel Islands and Flower Garden Banks have one polygon per `unitname` section). `cfrsection` and `citation` give the designating regulation.

## Find a place

`place_id` is unique and prefixed; `status` / `status_source` / `status_date` say whether the place is current and
where that is documented. Check `status` before treating a lease or area as live.

## Render on a map

Load `places.pmtiles` (layer `noaa_sanctuaries`) into MapLibre GL via the PMTiles protocol; `styles/default.json` is a starting style.
